The Challenge To design a house with an attached garage on a severely sloping site with the slope predominantly diagonal to the roadway.
The Solution The concept of a driveway leading one to a courtyard platform hidden from the public view, enabled this project to; a) to satisfy the planning policy of the area and b) to satisfy the clients brief. The positioning of the dwelling takes account of existing ground levels with retaining walls proposed around the build platform. The southern gable and single storey annexes address the public road and the courtyard type effect helps to break up the bulk of the structure and to screen the garage to the rear.
